A well deserved Cup...
The 5th Annual d’Rhinos tournament saw the KL Tigers U8s return to Competitive Touch rugby for the first time since the KL10s at Epsom College in June.
Saturday saw 4 games, played under a hot Malacca sun on what was a very long day. It was worth it though as we finished top of the table with 4 wins beating BBRC B, D’Rhinos B, Kesang Tua (who won against us in the final last year at the BBRC tournament) and Pheonix.
The games allowed some less experienced players to get some valuable game time and develop their skills in defence and attack.
Due to the position teams finished on, on the Saturday we met D’Rhinos B and Kesang Tua again and won to get to the cup final against a side we had not played before Kuala Muda. The atmosphere pitch side was superb but the match agonising to watch- it was a fast physical game.
All did not go to plan as we found ourselves 12-7 down in the final minute of the game. However there was still time for one final attack by the Tigers. Putting into practice what had been drilled and practiced the final surge forward resulted in a Super Try-7 points and a 14-12 win for the Tigers. What a match and what a way to clinch it.
Kuala Muda were perhaps the toughest opposition the team have faced- they were definitely the fastest team we have played against. The team did their parents and club proud showing true grit to the end. However, I hope we don’t have many more matches like that as I think, like many, I aged considerably watching the match- it was nerve racking.
Go U8 Tigers you were awesome!!
