Rugby or rugby football is a game played by two teams using an oval ball. Players try to score points by carrying the ball to their opponent's end of the field or by kicking it over a bar fixed between two posts. A player carrying the ball is stopped by a tackle by their opponent.

The traditional format of the game is played by two teams of 15 players. It is suitable for boys, girls, men and women of varying shapes, sizes, ages and experience. There is a strong culture of teamwork, respect for opponents and referees, and inclusivity. 

Every four years, the 15-a-side game is celebrated at what is regarded as the world’s third largest sporting event, the Rugby World Cup (RWC) – the peak international rugby tournament governed by World Rugby. 20 countries competed in RWC 2023, which attracted 2.3 million spectators who recorded 1.3 billion viewing hours!
